Emirates ID Perks: 6 Lesser-Known Uses for UAE Residents 2026

Emirates ID perks go well beyond proving who you are. The same card can speed you through Dubai airport, support visa-free entry to Georgia, pay for fuel at ADNOC and unlock digital signing through UAE Pass. This guide lists six lesser-known uses, who qualifies for each, and what we could not confirm.

We are not ICP or any UAE government body. We never ask for your ID number, and every perk here is run by the authority or company named.

Most people learn about these extras by accident. A friend walks through the smart gate while you queue. A colleague pays for petrol without a bank card.

Many lists of Emirates ID perks online repeat claims that no official page supports. So we checked each one against a government or first-party source: u.ae, GDRFA Dubai, the Embassy of Georgia, ADNOC Distribution and Emirates NBD. Where only news reports back a perk, we say so.

What Are Emirates ID Perks?

Emirates ID perks are the extra, practical uses of your identity card that sit outside its core job of identification for government, banking, telecom and health services. We cover those core uses in our guide to Emirates ID benefits. A perk is optional and saves you time or money once you know it exists.

Why this matters:

  • You already paid for the card, so the extras cost nothing more.
  • Several perks need a one-time setup, such as a wallet or a registration, before they work.
  • Some depend on your nationality or your employer, and no list tells you that upfront.
  • A few popular claims are wrong and can leave you stuck at an airport or an ATM.

Every perk needs a valid card. If yours is still being printed, use our Emirates ID status tracking guide to see where it is.

Emirates ID Perks at a Glance

There are six perks we could trace to an official or first-party source. This table shows who can use each one and what you need first.

💡 Tip: Start with UAE Pass and the smart gate check. Both are free and take a few minutes.

Perk 1: Faster Immigration at Smart Gates

The UAE Government portal lists passing through immigration gates at UAE airports as one of the uses of the card. In Dubai, GDRFA Dubai runs the smart gates. Its pages list UAE residents among the people who can use them, next to UAE and GCC nationals, visa-on-arrival guests and holders of pre-issued visas.

Step 1: Check that you are registered

Open GDRFA Dubai’s Inquiry for Smart Gate Registration. The service asks for your Emirates ID or your passport details, plus your date of birth.

Step 2: Go to the smart gate lane

Stand on the marked footprints, remove glasses, hats and masks, and look at the camera. Gulf News reported in July 2026 that the gates at DXB now clear passengers by face recognition. Older guides describe scanning the card or passport at the gate, so keep both in your hand.

If the gate refuses you, an officer at the staffed counter will process you. A little more detail (so it never fails): GDRFA’s pages say the gates will not work for residents who stayed outside the UAE for six months, or for registered passengers who renewed their passport or changed nationality. Children under 15 or shorter than 1.2 metres should use the counter.

⚠️ Warning: Smart gates do not replace your passport. You still need it to board the flight and to enter the other country.

Perk 2: Visa-Free Travel to Georgia with a UAE Residence Permit

This is the travel perk with the clearest official wording. The Embassy of Georgia to the UAE states that people who hold a UAE visa or residence permit may enter and stay in Georgia without a visa for 90 calendar days in any 180-day period. The page names the Emirates ID as the proof of that permit.

ConditionWhat the Embassy of Georgia says
Length of stay90 calendar days in any 180-day period
Residence permitValid on the day you enter and the day you leave Georgia
PassportValid for at least 90 days
InsuranceTravel or health insurance covering more than 30,000 GEL for the whole visit
Listed nationalitiesPermit must be valid for not less than 1 year

The one-year rule applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda and Yemen. Read the conditions on the Embassy of Georgia visa information page before you book.

What about other countries?

Travel blogs list more places as visa-free or visa on arrival for UAE residents, such as Oman, Azerbaijan and the Maldives. The rule often depends on your passport, your profession or an e-visa. We could not confirm those lists on official pages, so check the destination’s embassy site each time.

Can you travel in the GCC with only the card?

u.ae says the card lets UAE citizens travel within GCC countries. It does not say this for expatriate residents. If you are a resident on a foreign passport, carry your passport.

⚠️ Warning: An expired card can end this perk at the check-in desk. If yours is close to expiry, follow our Emirates ID renewal guide before you travel.

Perk 3: Pay for Fuel at ADNOC with Your Card

ADNOC Distribution describes a service called ADNOC Wallet. You add credit to the wallet, then pay at the pump with a token linked to it. The company lists the Emirates ID as one of those tokens, next to a smart tag on the car, your phone and the ADNOC Plus card.

  • Download the ADNOC Distribution app from your phone’s official store and create an account.
  • Open ADNOC Wallet and register your Emirates ID as a payment method.
  • Top up the wallet with credit.
  • At the station, give your card to the attendant or use it at the pump, and the amount is taken from the wallet.

ADNOC also says an account holder can add beneficiaries by registering their Emirates ID. Details are on ADNOC Distribution’s wallet page.

💡 Tip: The card is only a key to the wallet. If the wallet balance is empty, the payment fails, so set a reminder to top up.

Perk 4: Sign Documents Digitally with UAE Pass

u.ae describes UAE Pass as the first national digital identity and signature solution. With it you can log in to government and private services, sign documents digitally and keep official documents in a digital vault. Registration uses a face scan and creates a verified account in less than five minutes, according to the same page.

UAE Pass sign-in screen on ICP Smart Services

Your Emirates ID is the starting point. News guides explain that you scan the card in the app to register. The official page does not spell out the card step, so follow the prompts in the app.

The chip in your card already carries digital signature and authentication certificates, according to u.ae. UAE Pass is the practical way most residents use that ability today. To see the digital version of your card, read our Emirates ID app guide.

⚠️ Warning: Approve a UAE Pass request only when you started it yourself. A login prompt you did not expect means someone else is trying to use your account.

Perk 5: Discount Programmes and Resident Offers

Two discount programmes come up in every list of Emirates ID perks: Fazaa and Esaad. Neither is open to everyone, and that is the part most articles skip.

ProgrammeRun byWho qualifies, per news reportsRole of your card
FazaaMinistry of Interior social fundMOI staff, partner employers, people of determination, some other groupsID number and card copy in the application
Fazaa family membership 2026Fazaa with the Ministry of FamilyResident families with one child or more, free during 2026ID numbers of both parents and card uploads
EsaadDubai PoliceDubai Police staff, senior citizens, selected Golden Visa holdersEmirates ID in the registration

So, the Fazaa family membership is the best option for most families because it is free during 2026 and does not depend on your employer. Gulf News reported the offer in March 2026 and said the application link is shared through Fazaa’s official Instagram account. Check that it is still open before you apply.

Resident rates at attractions

Parks and attractions often run resident offers, and staff ask for your card at the gate as proof that you live in the UAE. News reports have named Dubai Miracle Garden, Wild Wadi and Aquaventure. Offers change by season, so confirm the price on the attraction’s own website.

Perk 6: Nobody Can Keep Your Card

This one is a legal protection. u.ae states that it is against the law to seize another person’s Emirates ID, and that companies are not allowed to withhold the cards of their employees.

Why this matters: hotels, gyms, security desks and employers sometimes ask to hold a card. The same page says you must carry the card with you at all times, which you cannot do if someone else has it.

Emirates ID Perks We Could Not Confirm

These points appear in other lists. We looked for an official or first-party source and did not find one.

ClaimWhat we found
Withdraw cash by inserting the card in an ATMEmirates NBD’s cardless cash page uses a code from its mobile app and does not mention the Emirates ID
Expat residents can cross GCC borders on the card aloneu.ae limits GCC travel on the card to UAE citizens
Fuel payment by card at every fuel brandOnly ADNOC Wallet could be traced to the company itself
Hotels must accept the card in place of a passportNo official rule found. Ask the hotel before you arrive

Emirates NBD does offer cardless cash, with a stated limit of AED 5,000 per day. The key is the bank’s app, not your identity card.

Common Problems with Emirates ID Perks

  • Smart gate does not open: you may not be registered, or your passport was renewed. Use the counter, then run the GDRFA inquiry before your next trip.
  • ADNOC payment declined: check the wallet balance and that the card is registered in the app.
  • UAE Pass will not verify you: make sure the card is valid and your details match ICP’s records.
  • Card lost: most perks stop until you have a new one. See how to replace a lost or damaged Emirates ID.

Tips to Get More from Emirates ID Perks

  • Keep the card valid. Every perk on this page depends on a card that has not expired.
  • Carry the passport as well when you fly. The card supports your travel. It does not replace the passport for residents.
  • Check smart gate registration before a busy travel day. The GDRFA inquiry is free and quick.
  • Top up your ADNOC Wallet in advance. The card only works at the pump when the wallet has credit.
  • Protect your UAE Pass. Never approve a request you did not start, and never share a code.
  • Ask for your card back. No company is allowed to withhold it.
  • Confirm discount eligibility first. Fazaa and Esaad accept specific groups, and offers can close.
  • Share the number carefully. Give your ID number only to services you opened yourself.
