Emirates ID Download: How to Get the E-Version on Your Phone 2026

Emirates ID download means saving the electronic version of your card on your phone. ICP says you can view the e-version in its UAEICP app once the card is issued, and you can also use your digital ID through UAE Pass. This guide shows each method, what the copy is good for and where it can be refused.

We are not ICP, UAE Pass or any UAE government body. We never ask for your ID number, and your e-version comes only from the official apps.

You usually need an Emirates ID download at an awkward moment. The printed card is still with the courier, or it is at home and a clerk is waiting. The good news is that the e-version sits in two official apps, and you can open it in a couple of minutes.

Below you will find the steps for each app, a table of which copy suits which job, and an honest look at validity. Official pages say little about where a digital copy must be accepted, so we mark what comes from ICP and what comes from news.

What Is an Emirates ID Download?

It is the electronic version of your identity card, taken from ICP’s records and shown on your phone. It carries the same details as the printed card. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) is the only body that issues it.

You do not apply for it separately. ICP’s UAE Pass page explains that after the ID card is issued, you can view the electronic version in the authority’s app.

Why this matters:

  • You can show your ID details while the printed card is being delivered.
  • You can attach a clear PDF to an online application.
  • You have a backup on your phone if you leave your wallet at home.
  • You can keep the cards of family members you sponsor in one place.

⚠️ Warning: A photo or scan of your card is not the e-version. Only a copy that comes from the UAEICP app or UAE Pass can be checked against official records.

Emirates ID Download Methods at a Glance

There are four methods by which you can get the e-version on your phone. Two run inside the UAEICP app, one uses UAE Pass, and one is for iPhone users only.

So, the UAEICP app is the best method because it is the one ICP itself names, and it gives you both the PDF and the QR code. Add UAE Pass as your second copy, since many services already ask you to sign in with it.

💡 Tip: Set up UAE Pass first. The UAEICP app signs you in through UAE Pass, so every method on this page starts there.

What You Need for an Emirates ID Download

The official UAE Pass page lists two things for citizens and residents: a valid Emirates ID and an active UAE mobile number. You then verify your identity with a face scan in the app, or at a UAE Pass kiosk.

  • A smartphone with the UAE Pass app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • A verified UAE Pass account.
  • The UAEICP app. The UAE Government portal lists it on Apple and Google platforms.
  • A card that ICP has already issued or approved.

Is your card still being processed? You can check your Emirates ID application status first, so you know whether there is a card to show yet.

A little more detail (so it never fails): UAE Pass sends its approval request to the phone that holds your account. If you changed your SIM, fix that first with our guide on how to change the mobile number on your Emirates ID.

Method 1: Emirates ID Download in the UAEICP App

This is ICP’s own app. Its official page lists login through UAE PASS and a digital wallet for official documents among the features. The menu names below come from Gulf News guides published in 2025, so your screen may look slightly different after an update.

UAEICP mobile app screen where the digital Emirates ID is opened

Step 1: Install the app

Search for UAEICP in your phone’s official store and install it.

Step 2: Sign in with UAE Pass

Tap the UAE Pass sign-in option and approve the request in the UAE Pass app.

Step 3: Open Emirates ID

Select Emirates ID on the home screen, then tap your name. Your card appears on screen with its number and expiry date.

Step 4: Save the PDF

Use the download option to save a PDF copy. Keep it in a folder you can reach offline.

⚠️ Warning: ICP warns about fake calls and counterfeit websites that misuse its name. Do not use any website that offers to “download” your card if you type in your ID number. The e-version comes from the apps only.

Method 2: Show the QR Code Instead of the Card

The app can also show a QR code for your card. Gulf News describes an option called “Emirates ID QR Code” that asks you to verify yourself and then displays a code with your ID number, unified number and expiry date.

QR code of a digital Emirates ID being scanned for verification
  • Open the UAEICP app and tap the Emirates ID QR Code option.
  • Verify with your mobile number or personal details.
  • Hold the code up for the officer or agent to scan.

Why this matters: when the authority launched the e-version in June 2021, Gulf News reported it as saying that a scan pulls the data from its database, much like reading the chip of a printed card. In the same report, a resident said a provider had refused his PDF.

💡 Tip: If a counter refuses your PDF, offer the QR code before you give up. A scanned code is harder to argue with than a file.

Method 3: Get Your Emirates ID in UAE Pass

UAE Pass is the national digital identity. Its official page reports more than 11 million registered users and over 15,000 services. One feature lets you request digital versions of official documents and keep them in a Digital Vault.

UAE Pass app on a phone showing the documents section

Step 1: Open Add Documents

Sign in to UAE Pass and tap Add Documents. The official page tells you to select the government department that issues the document.

Step 2: Request the card

Choose ICP as the issuer, pick Emirates ID and tap Request. News guides place it under a Personal section.

Step 3: Find it under Documents

Once verified, the document is saved in the Digital Vault under Documents. Gulf News says this takes a few minutes.

After that, a service provider that works with UAE Pass can request the document, and you approve it on your phone.

The UAE Government portal describes UAE Verify as the platform that verifies the authenticity of digital documents.

⚠️ Warning: Approve a sharing request only when you started the transaction yourself. Nobody from a bank or an authority needs you to approve a request during an unexpected phone call.

Method 4: Add the Card to Apple Wallet

This one is for iPhone users. Gulf News reported in July 2024 that ICP added an “Add to Apple Wallet” option inside the UAEICP app. It appears above the picture of your card after you open Emirates ID and select the card.

The same report says you can add the cards of a spouse or children under your sponsorship, and that the wallet card shows a QR code that can be checked through ICP’s website. We found no ICP page describing this feature.

Is the E-Version Valid? What Officials Actually Say

Many blogs state that the digital card is legally valid everywhere. We could not find that sentence on any official page, so here is what each source really says.

SourceWhat it saysType
ICP, UAE Pass pageAfter the card is issued you can view the electronic version in the app, and use the digital ID through UAE PassOfficial
UAE Pass official pageYou can request digital versions of official documents and use them with service providersOfficial
u.ae, Emirates ID page (17 Feb 2026)Nothing about an e-version or its acceptanceOfficial, silent
Khaleej Times, June 2021Quoted the authority: the e-version is as valid as the physical cardNews
Gulf News, June 2021The authority was coordinating with service providers on acceptanceNews

So the honest answer is this. The e-version is an official copy and government services built around UAE Pass are designed to use it. Acceptance at a bank, a hotel, a telecom shop or an airport desk is that organisation’s decision, and no official list exists.

💡 Tip: Call ahead before a visit that matters, such as opening a bank account, and ask whether a digital copy is enough.

Which Copy Should You Use?

An Emirates ID download gives you more than one kind of copy. Match the copy to the task.

If your printed card is lost and you were relying on the digital copy, do not leave it there. The UAE Government portal says a lost card must be reported within 7 days. Follow our guide to replace a lost or damaged Emirates ID.

⚠️ Warning: We could not confirm any page on ICP’s website that lets you download a card with only an ID number, a date of birth and an OTP. Treat guides that describe such a page with care.

Tips to Keep Your Digital Emirates ID Safe

  • Use official stores only. Install UAEICP and UAE Pass from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • Lock your phone. A PIN or face lock protects every copy stored on it.
  • Never share your UAE Pass PIN. No officer or bank agent needs it.
  • Prefer UAE Pass sharing. The provider receives a verifiable document instead of a loose file.
  • Send the PDF only when you must. A loose copy of your ID can be misused.
  • Keep an offline copy. Save the PDF in your files so it opens without internet.
  • Refresh after renewal. Request the document again when a new card is issued.
  • Carry the printed card for big tasks. Banking and travel desks may still ask for it.

Final Thoughts

I really suggest you set up both copies today, before you need them: the PDF and QR code in the UAEICP app, and the document in UAE Pass. An Emirates ID download takes a few minutes when you are relaxed and feels much longer at a counter.

Keep the printed card for banking and travel, and treat the e-version as your everyday backup. Spotted a menu name that has changed? Tell us through the contact page.
